On April 26, 2017, I co-hosted a mixer for Atlanta-based black women therapists. Why? Well, I was on a coffee date with two of my friends/colleagues, Thandi Chase, LCSW & Sarah Vinson, MD, and we realized that we have so many connections within the field of psychology, and in Atlanta, but that oftentimes, these connections don't know each other or even know that each other exist. I often receive referrals for clients specifically looking for black women therapists, and my list of referrals is not as long as I would like it to be, and never as long as the community needs. So, what better way to figure out who/where we are and how we help? MEET!
I was SO pleased to see our idea come to life; we hosted familiar and unfamiliar faces & learned more about various training/treatment that's accessible in ATL including maternal mental health, foster care services, couples & families, infertility counseling, trauma, and eating disorders. It was powerful to be amongst women of different backgrounds all dedicated to uplifting and treating clients of African descent. Thanks to everyone who came out and to those who were not able to make it, be on the lookout for more. Hoping for the next one (late summer '17) to be bigger and better! Feel free to email me to stay in the loop!
